What it is
Lip fillers are hyaluronic acid gels specifically formulated for the lips. Unlike dermal fillers used on cheeks or jawline, lip fillers are softer and contain more water, which gives a more natural-feeling result that moves with your lips instead of sitting static under them.
We work with three primary products, each with a distinct purpose: Juvéderm Volbella for the softest, most subtle result - ideal for hydration and perioral lines. Restylane Kysse for a natural plump with flexibility during expression. Revanesse Versa Lips for more defined shape and border clarity. your injector will recommend the product based on your anatomy, your goal, and what your lips will hold beautifully.

What to expect
Lip filler appointments take about 30 minutes. We apply topical numbing, and the filler itself contains lidocaine - most clients describe the injections as a quick pinch rather than painful. You'll see shape immediately, with swelling that peaks at 24 to 48 hours and fully resolves within a week. Bruising is possible - the lips have a lot of blood supply - so avoid blood-thinning medications, alcohol, and high-dose fish oil for 48 hours before.
After your appointment, avoid kissing, drinking from straws, and heavy exercise for 24 hours. Sleep slightly elevated the first night to reduce swelling. The final result - the shape after swelling resolves - settles in around two weeks.

Can lip fillers be dissolved if I do not like the result?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which breaks down the HA gel within hours. This is one of the key safety advantages of HA-based lip fillers over permanent options. If you are unhappy with your result, want to make a correction, or want to start over with a different approach, your injector can dissolve the product and the lips return to their natural state within a few days. Dissolving is also used to correct rare issues like asymmetry or migration if they occur. We almost never need to do this when the initial injection is conservative - but it is good to know the option exists.
How much swelling should I expect after lip filler?
Swelling is normal and peaks 24 to 48 hours after treatment, then steadily decreases over the next 5 to 7 days. Some clients also have small bruises at injection sites that resolve within a week. Your lips will look fuller than the final result during the first 2 to 3 days - do not judge your outcome until day 7. We recommend avoiding alcohol, intense exercise, and heat (saunas, hot showers, sun) for the first 24 to 48 hours, since all of these increase blood flow and swelling. If you have an event, schedule the appointment at least 2 weeks ahead.
Will my lips look fake or overdone?
Not when the work is done conservatively. At Luxe Forté, our approach is restorative rather than additive - the goal is your lips refined, not bigger lips. She typically starts with a smaller amount than you think you need, lets the result settle, and adjusts at a follow-up if you want more. Overfilled lips happen when too much product goes in at one session or when shape is ignored in favor of volume. your injector maps your natural lip proportions before injecting and respects the borders of your face, not a trend.
How long do lip filler results last?
Lip filler results typically last 6 to 12 months. The exact duration depends on the specific HA product used, your metabolism, how active you are (intense exercise breaks down filler faster), and the amount injected. Most clients schedule a touch-up between 9 and 12 months to maintain consistent results. After the touch-up, the next interval often extends because the lip tissue holds onto product more efficiently the second time around.
What is the difference between lip fillers and dermal fillers?
Both are hyaluronic acid gels, but they are formulated differently for different tissue. Dermal fillers used on cheeks, jawline, or chin are firmer and longer-lasting because they need to hold structural shape against gravity. Lip fillers are softer and contain more water, which lets them integrate smoothly into the thinner, more mobile tissue of the lips and move naturally when you talk or smile. Injecting a cheek filler into the lips would feel stiff and unnatural; injecting a lip filler into the cheek would not hold shape. your injector selects the specific product within each category based on the result you are after.
